The internet offers many ways to earn money as more and more people are doing transactions online. Among the many ways to make money online are bidding, online sales, affiliate marketing, advertising and the most popular, pay per click marketing.

Pay per click marketing or PPC works as an advertising tool on the internet. It is a popular tool used online together with some other online advertising techniques and tools such as search engine optimization (SEO), Google Adwords, SEO networks and blogs.

Pay per click marketing is an important online advertising tool. Online businesses and websites often use it to promote their businesses and their websites. In offline advertising, most companies use billboards, newspapers, television and radio commercials, pamphlets and flyers and other creative means. Businesses who want to advertise on these methods pay the advertisers for displaying their ads or logos, or for airing or printing their ads.

In the internet, advertising is usually done in websites where website owners allocate a space for ads, logos and links of those who want to advertise. In the physical world, advertising is done and cost is determined by the number of minutes an ad is aired on television or radio or the space used in a newspaper or the size of the billboard.

Over the internet, the impact of advertising is difficult to measure. Businesses will find it hard to know the number of people who will see the advertisement. There may be ways to find out how many visitors a website has but the number of people who have actually seen the ad will be difficult to check.

In order for business owners and companies to not spend on advertising with an immeasurable impact, it was conceptualized that business owners should pay only if online surfers actually clicked the link or the ad. This will give the business owner the idea that the online reader was interested in the business. This is how the idea of pay per click marketing started.

So, in PPC, the website owner earns money every time the advertisement on his website is clicked. But a problem occurs when owners click their ad many times to earn more.

PPC marketing was also designed to prevent fraud. Codes are generated from websites so that the companies and businesses can determine if the clicks on the ad are unique and are not clicks from the website owner himself. This also makes PPC marketing an effective advertising tool as businesses will know that their ad was actually read and visited.
