To be successful online, you must use the proper tools. This is true about almost everything in life but especially meaningful when it comes to search engine optimization. There are plenty of tools available on the web for free and other tools, that provide more value, for either a one time payment or monthly fee. As a result, I wont spend a lot of time recommending products but rather discussion what you need them for.
Learn about your website. It has always been amazing to me that you don’t know as much about your own website as you think you do. Not only do you need to know how your website is built, but its also beneficial to inspect the foundation. From my perspective the foundation is the code upon which a web site is built. Check your site against W3C standards to ensure it meets basic coding standards.
Use tools that can give you a solid understanding of on page optimization factors. Even if you can build links to your website quickly from high ranking websites, your search ranking may be temporary without adherence to the proper on page factors. Consider the basic factors like your meta tags, page load times, and use of keywords throughout your page. Make sure the online search engine optimization tool you use can run an analysis on these factors for you on a regular basis.
Google likes it fast. Don’t make your web site pages overly complex. Pages that contain a lot of elements and large files rarely if ever achieve number one rankings. Google rewards pages that are quick to load and can provide users with value. This value is calculated across more than 120 different elements and changes frequently. These criteria generally aren’t a factor if a page loads slowly.
Don’t wait for search engines to spider your site. There is a log of question as to the value of this particular tip so I wouldn’t make it your the basis of your SEO strategy. However, submitting your website URL to different search engines can prove beneficial. This is especially true after a major redesign or change to your site. It’s always been my preference to wait for search engines to find my site. However, I have submitted new sites to Google and Yahoo! just to let them know I’m out there.
Develop in bound links to your site to improve ranking. When other sits link to yours, you create information back to search engines informing them of your meaning. Specifically, the Google Page Rank of the sites linking to yours determine your placement on search engine results. If you want to improve your rankings, develop inbound links from websites that already have an established Google page rank.
To improve the effectiveness of your online marketing, you must first consider you needs when it comes to on page and off page optimization. Whether you are trying to speed up your site, evaluate on page factors like meta tags, or focused on building links, you need a tool that can meet your needs. In some cases, you may need to use a combination of free and paid tools in order to meet your goals.
Consider using SEO tools to improve the quality of your website and improve search rankings. The added benefit of using technology to improve your seo campaigns is that you’ll save a great deal of time and frustration. Choose your tools and objectives carefully to achieve the outcome you’re looking for.

I have posted links to my website on forums and my blog and actively participate in the forums, always using my website’s link as my signature. Same in my blogs. But they just don’t seem to be getting picked up by yahoo and msn’s web crawlers. Only a few of them have come up as inlinks on my webmaster’s page.
